More than a million eggs are being recalled from retail outlets after Texas farms reported potential salmonella contamination, according to a Wednesday statement from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. is voluntarily recalling Texas-produced white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs.
The eggs were distributed from farms between June 6 and July 3, with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17, according to the FDA.
They were shipped to Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana and Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi, along with other small retail outlets.
According to the FDA, no other Midwest Poultry products are part of the recall. The company identified the salmonella risk through “proactive environmental monitoring processes and root cause analysis.”

Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. (now operating primarily as MPS Egg Farms) is a major U.S. shell-egg producer based in North Manchester, Indiana. It is a sixth-generation family-owned company with roots dating to 1875 (starting with a grain mill founded by Daniel Strauss). It ranks among the larger U.S. egg producers, with roughly 14 million laying hens producing about 11 million eggs per day across farms in northern Indiana, Illinois, Texas, and Georgia.
The company continues operations at its other locations and emphasizes food safety practices. This is a voluntary recall triggered by internal testing rather than a reported outbreak.
