Protecting Phone Numbers and Emails in the Forums
All,
We’ve added a simple new feature to help protect phone numbers and email addresses from being harvested by spam bots.
How it works
Just type a phone number or email address in your post the way you normally would. The site will automatically hide it behind a blue “Click to reveal” link.
For example, if you type a phone number or email, other people will see something like:
Click to reveal phone or Click to reveal email (dead examples)
When they click it, the real number or email appears and becomes a clickable link.
Important notes
• This happens automatically — you don’t need to do anything special.
• It works on both new posts and when you edit an older post.
• Please still use good judgment about posting personal contact information in a public forum.
This is mainly intended to make it harder for automated scrapers to collect contact details from the site.
I chased my tail for awhile trying to give an example of no masking and then masking, but the solution works so well it was fighting me at every turn! 😈 You try and see how it works for you and if you run into any problems with it, please just let me know.
