Cellular Service Update — Verizon Users Again Reporting Possible Problems

    Updated: August 9, 2026 — 0746 CDT

Following widespread cellular-service complaints involving several major wireless carriers on Saturday, the situation appears to have improved considerably Sunday morning, although Verizon is again showing an elevated level of user reports suggesting possible problems.

As of 0746 CDT Sunday, August 9, outage-monitoring service Downdetector is showing:

    • AT&T — No current problems reported
    • T-Mobile — No current problems reported
    • Verizon — User reports indicate possible problems

The latest reports follow a significant Verizon service disruption Saturday afternoon that affected wireless customers across the United States. Verizon acknowledged an issue affecting voice services and said its engineers were working to identify and resolve the problem.

Downdetector reports began climbing during the afternoon Saturday, with more than 12,000 to 13,000 Verizon problem reports recorded near the peak of the incident. Customers reported difficulty making telephone calls, sending messages and, in some cases, maintaining normal cellular connectivity.

Verizon later announced Saturday evening that the problem had been resolved. However, the renewed increase in user reports visible on Downdetector Sunday morning suggests that some customers may still be experiencing intermittent or localized difficulties. At this point, elevated user reports alone should not be interpreted as confirmation of another nationwide Verizon outage.

    AT&T and T-Mobile

Both AT&T and T-Mobile are currently showing no widespread problems on Downdetector.

Both carriers received increased outage reports during Saturday’s disruption. T-Mobile stated at the time that its own network was operating normally and noted that problems involving another wireless carrier could prevent T-Mobile customers from successfully reaching customers using that carrier. This may account for at least some of the reports involving carriers other than Verizon during the incident.

    What Users Should Watch For

Cellular users should continue monitoring their service, particularly if experiencing failed or dropped calls, intermittent data service, text-message failures, an “SOS” or “SOS Only” indication, or difficulty reaching customers on another wireless network.

Because Saturday’s disruption involved voice communications, amateur radio operators and emergency-communications volunteers may wish to remain aware of the situation should additional cellular problems develop.

    Current Outage Information

    • Verizon: Downdetector Verizon Status
    • AT&T: Downdetector AT&T Status
    • T-Mobile: Downdetector T-Mobile Status
    • Verizon Network Status: Official Verizon Network Status

    Updated Media Coverage

    • WRAL: Verizon outage resolved after several customers unable to make phone calls, company says — updated early Sunday morning with Verizon’s announcement that the outage had been resolved.
    • KSTP: Verizon says outage affecting users across the country has been resolved — reports that Downdetector received more than 13,000 reports at the peak of Saturday’s disruption.
    • Fox Business: Verizon suffers outage in some parts of U.S. with thousands of reports — reports more than 12,000 Downdetector complaints and Verizon’s acknowledgment that wireless voice services were affected.

RRVARC will continue monitoring the situation and update this information if additional carrier statements or significant service disruptions are reported.

Note: Downdetector relies largely on reports submitted by users. An increase in reports may identify a developing or localized service problem, but it does not by itself confirm a nationwide carrier outage.
