Red River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Amateur Radio in and around the Red River Valley Area of Northeast Texas
All,
Some of the news I post here isn’t at all related to ham radio, but it I think it is of general interest. With our resident battery expert Jerry Keisler I rarely go anywhere else but him with a battery question. Now this Wall Street Journal article – A Battery That Lasts 50% Longer Is Finally in Production — Solid-state batteries have long been elusive, but a firm that supplied cells to the Defense Department could be first to get them into consumer electronics. To me this is a fascinating concept and the ham radio application long-term is without question.
From the article: “Ion Storage Systems’ novel solid-state batteries were inspired by hydrogen fuel-cell technology.” These things are a “solid-state battery” design. There you go. The technology is quite impressive and doesn’t look to be very far away.
