I try to be careful to only post news here that I think has widespread appeal.  I know some of the members of the Club do not initially think to look here, but hopefully the occasional piece I post will get someone’s attention.  I always hope someone finds them to be something genuinely informative and they maybe would not have seen it had I not posted it here.  This is one of those news pieces.

I have had a number of friends die of pancreatic cancer.  Kathy and I know the numbers and when we learn that someone has been diagnosed with it we are just terribly disappointed.  A few years ago a dear friend, retired American Airlines Captain Bill Purcell (KF5GJY), also a former officer with the Fannin County Amateur Radio Club; he told me that he had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had opted for palliative care only.  My recollection was that he was deceased within a month of the diagnosis.  So, when I see a headline like After new drug’s ‘unprecedented’ results for pancreatic cancer, doctors look at other uses I want to know about it.
