All,
Two big points about the forums:
1) I am working with Club member Mike Spracklen (KJ5ILO) in hopes of rolling out an upgrade to the whole forums experience. I do not have a timeline for it, and I don’t want to overpromise, but we are working to produce a better experience. As a result we are not putting too much work into tweaking the current forums. I am guardedly optimistic the new product will be greatly appreciated. More on that later.
2) Mike has implemented something that I want to point everyone to. Mark and my goal is to have the forums be engaging and timely. We wish everyone would subscribe to all of them, but at the minimum we wish everyone would at least subscribe to Announcements. Having said that, we do always want you, the end user, to be in total control of your email inbox. More on that now.
The first thing you do is sign in. Hover over MEMBERSHIP and click “Member Login” as shown in this picture:

The forums are currently comprised of the eight topics in the red boxes below:

When you click on one of those major areas it opens up to show what are called posts or threads. See this image:

Each arrow points to an individual topic, post, thread, whatever you would care to call it. So, within that area you see the list of all the various posts that have been made. And you will see one of two buttons as shown here:
or
If you want to be notified, or if you do not want to be notified, for posts to that particular area, click the button and change it to reflect your desire. One click turns it on and one click turns it off.
Right now I urge you to click “forums” as in the red box in this image:

Then, one at a time click each of the major areas, see what the button in each says, adjust it to suit yourself and once you are done in that area again click “forums” as you previously did. Each time you are done in a section, just click on “forums” as before and it will take you back to the big forum listing.
If you ever get lost, just click as depicted here:

Do not be confused if the word FORUMS is red or blue. Now, within each forum, if for example you are not subscribed, but there is a post/thread that you want to follow, click it to open it (see the image below):

So, what you are doing is subscribing to any follow up replies/updates made to that one single post. Not the entire forum, just that one post/thread.
If you follow the steps above, you have very granular control over what forum features you subscribe to. Eventually I would like one button to “subscribe all” and “unsubscribe all”, but for now this is the way we have to do it.
If you have any trouble with this, please drop me a note, text or call me. I can do these things for you, but with ~50 members I prefer for everyone to at least please give it a try yourself.

WOW! Did anyone else notice how much easier it is to read the forums suddenly? Club member and resident genius Mike Spracklen (KJ5ILO) has been making some tweaks to the site in general and the forums specifically. The default font is now much easier to read. Thank you Mike!
