    Sept. 13, 2023 fox hunt

    KD6UMU 9:16 AM
Fox hunting. Thus morning was fun. I took one Compass heading at the Civic Center where I was walking my dogs just prior then I went up to the soccer field across from the Small Business Development Center and then I went over to the West End of the park and was Within 50 ft of it when I parked and I thought I needed to drive around to get another Compass heading but I walked up that hill to the road and then I lost the signal so I realized it was in the tree behind me so 10khz offset full attenuation

We had 5 out hunting the 0.1 watt fox on Dec 19, 2023. The starting temp was 34 degrees. The first one found it in 15 minutes and the last one found it in 1 hour 15 minutes. We are changing the location of the fox hunts from inside the Paris loop to inside Lamar County.  We are working on upping the power some as I was told the fox was heard but noisy on the loop.

In the future we will try to stick to a schedule of fox hunts on the 2nd Saturday and the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 9 am on 446.250 MHz.

In the future we will try to stick to a schedule of fox hunts on the 2nd Saturday and the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10 am to noon on 446.250 MHz.

The January Sat and Tue fox hunts are CANCLED do to wind chill forecasted for those days.

During the winter months fox hunts WILL NOT occur if the wind chill is below 38 degrees.

All fox hunts will be announced on the Monday night net as to whether they will occur or not.

Also note the change from 9 am to 10 am start time.

Welcome Rayan, KJ5BUL and Kelly, W5KJC to the FOX hunt.  We had five hunters today March 9.

Some fox hunts can lead you on quite a chase.  Here was the route of one of todays hunters.

Sat, Apr 13, 2024.  10 am – 12 pm.   Inside Paris loop.   446.250 MHz.   I found a dry spot in town to hide.

Johnny found a new way to triangulate the fox. “Google Earth Pro” on his laptop. You can make the ruler stick. So by taking several measurements, head to the one where most of the lines cross.  You can use a compass or the compass on your smart phone to determine the correct heading on the map.

Tue, Apr 16, 2024.  10 am – 12 pm.    446.250 MHz. This one is iffy.  40% chance of rain. I will send out another email. Also check-in the Monday night net for details.
