The club GMRS repeater at Atlas (462.600 PL 88.5 in/out) is up, and Jerry already confirmed it works well from north of the North Sulphur on a 5-watt handheld.  Kathy and I use GMRS around the place in Honey Grove, but the repeater itself is still pretty quiet.

I’d like to try a low-pressure experiment:

If you’re licensed and have a radio programmed, key up when you think of it — even a short “monitoring from [town or road]” is enough.  No net control and no set schedule to start.  If a few of us start hearing each other, we can always pick a regular evening later.

GMRS IDs are those longer WR/WS calls, not the familiar W5/K5 tickets.  Use your GMRS call on the air (family members on the same license can add a unit number).  If you’re dual-licensed, dropping the ham call after that is fine too so the rest of us know who we’re talking to.

Also useful: has anyone else in the household used the family GMRS license yet?  That’s one of the better features of GMRS and an easy way to get spouses and kids on the air before they ever sit for Technician.
