I understand the odds are against me here, but if anyone happens to have or know of one available, I am in the market for a *reasonably priced* Raytheon RAY-152.

I am curious, why do you fancy this marine radio? A post on that review thread made in 2012 said if you can get one for less than $900 you are doing good. The only one I find online is this one – Ray 152E MF-HF SSB Radiotelephone – and it is out of Germany. I set up an eBay search and if another shows up I will let you know. A ten minute search online didn’t yield any other results for me. I am going to try and make contact with the folks posting to the review and tell them you are in the market. Maybe one of them will have an idea.

That’s a reasonable question. On the surface it might not make much sense, but there is a method to the madness.
My daily driver HF ham rig (JRC JST-135) was made by the Japan Radio Company (JRC). They were a company who (at the time) specialized in marine HF communications and produced a line of high-end Amateur radio gear as a sideline. They also contracted to produce designs and internals for other companies which were re-faced and re-branded. The RAY-152 is essentially a re-branded JRC JST-135 in all respects save color and face control unit. (Better JRC photos here — (where I bought mine many moons ago))
These radios are modular — featuring a motherboard/daughterboard design, –so as far as parts and functionally go, they are interchangeable.
So, the marine version (RAY-152) differs only in face controls and paint, but I still think it’s a helluva good rig, and they’d look nice side-by-side on the ham bench. The quality of both rigs can be surmised by the tenacity with which their owners prized them. There’s a lot of them out there, folks just won’t let go of them.
OK, cool, I didn’t know any of that. You know, but I will share with the rest of the audience, earlier this morning I located email addresses for all but one of the people that posted at the thread you linked to above. I got four replies back in about four hours, so pretty impressive. The guy from India said that his had a lot of marine corrosion and that he had a hard time keeping it running and so he had given it away. So maybe as we hunt for one we need to be mindful of that. But interesting that so many radios shared parts! – Phillip
There’s one other rig I seriously Jones for, but am also not willing to pay the price most owners will ask. It’s only a receiver, but it’s one helluva good one.
