      All,

Well, talk about a busy news week.  After just making several news and non-news posts all over our forums I ran across two stories – TWO – about Reed Timmer the storm chaser.  I do not believe he holds an amateur radio license, please correct me if I am wrong, but he IS a prolific storm chaser.  Yes, there is a big difference between being a storm chaser and a storm spotter.  I have a sneaking suspicion that if any of us knocked 30-40 years off our age and someone said “Here’s a big check, go buy anything you want and go chase storms.”; I am betting suddenly a lot of storm spotters would turn into storm chasers.  LOL  But, I digress.

A follow on to the smash hit Twister (1996), which stared Helen Hunt and now deceased Bill Paxton, is coming out this summer.  Twisters is apparently loosely based on the original movie and Reed Timmer was a consultant on the picture.  The New York Times has two pieces, A Trip Into Tornado Alley With America’s Most Obsessive Storm Chaser (July 19, 2024) and Inside a Twister With the World’s Most Famous Storm Chaser (July 27, 2024).  I will give it to The New York Times – They know how to make a big budget news story interesting.  LOL

Enjoy reading about Reed, the “Dominator 3, a seven-ton armored Ford F-350 that Reed uses for chases” and his “dog, Gizmo. (She has seen over 200 tornadoes.)”  Gizmo is a darling little thing.  She reminds me a lot of James Yost’s (KA8FRK) companion Bailey.
