All,
Over time, the officers have periodically discussed the need to update some of the banners and signage the club uses at public events. We use them across the front of tables, behind operating positions, at Tour de Paris and at other club and community activities, and some of what we have today is simply getting dated.
Rather than jump straight to ordering something, we put together a batch of sample concepts so everyone can see some possibilities and tell us what they think.
The left side of the graphic shows several general-use RRVARC concepts, while the right side includes some Tour de Paris / Paris, Texas concepts. Those incorporate things such as bicycles and our local Eiffel Tower with its red cowboy hat.
None of these are final designs and nothing has been selected or ordered. They are simply ideas intended to get the conversation started.
When commenting, please use the labels shown on the graphic where possible. For example, you might say that you prefer General T2 over General T1, or that you particularly like or dislike Tour de Paris T3. The larger backdrop concepts at the bottom are labeled B1, B2 and B3. That will make it much easier for everyone to know which design is being discussed.
For some idea of cost, here are very rough one-off pricing ranges for the types and sizes represented:
- General T1, T2 and T3 / Tour de Paris T1, T2 and T3 — approximately 96″ × 30″ table banners: $55–$90 each
- B1, B2 and B3 — approximately 96″ × 60″ backdrop banners: $90–$150 each
- Retractable banner — approximately 33″ × 80″, including the stand: $90–$160
- 24″ × 18″ Coroplast sign: approximately $20–$35
- 24″ × 18″ sign with a basic stand or frame: approximately $60–$100
- 72″ × 24″ event banner: approximately $40–$65
Those are only ballpark figures, not vendor quotes, and shipping or upgraded materials could move the numbers around. We have intentionally been looking at fairly common production sizes so that we are not creating something unnecessarily expensive to have made.
Please take a look and tell us what catches your eye — good or bad. If you really like one, let us know. If you hate one, that is useful information too.
We would also welcome thoughts about:
- Colors or overall style
- Wording or slogans
- How prominently the official RRVARC logo should appear
- Whether WB5RDD and/or RRVARC should be emphasized
- Whether you like the Paris, Texas Eiffel Tower on the Tour de Paris versions
- Anything you think is missing
And if none of these is what you have in mind, please tell us what you would rather see. This is exactly the point in the process where different ideas are useful.
The goal is simply to end up with banners and signage that represent RRVARC well and that we will be proud to use for years to come. The more input we have before narrowing the choices down, the better.

I like the T1 General Use Banner. Maybe change the tower to the Eiffel Hat tower with the radiated symbols?
I like the T1 TDP banner but I don’t know where I would put it on my umbrella chair. Why is the red star on the others over Beaumont?
I like B1 and B3.
Can we make the Coroplast a few billboards around town.

I like the t3 for Tour De Paris
And B2 for the General Radio club one because it emphasis is on Community and Service and of course Communication
Now where would it be used other than once a year at FD and then at the Tour de Paris
In other words will the RRVARC be represented at the Lewisville fest alongside other clubs
Maybe that part of the country is too far away from us, to recruit members

This is a banner options discussion. 😂🤣 The number of them we do is going to be dependent on finances, which you are going to see me hitting very, very soon. As for going and doing, I’ll leave that to another post somewhere else. 😂🤣😎

Spot on comment about the spotting error, locating the Paris area mark where Beaumont is. I made a quick adjustment for the continued discussion, but any finished product will need to get that exactly right. It is still a little off, but better. Thanks again for the catch!

Just throwing in a couple thoughts.
I like the T1 Charles adjusted.
However, if these are to be used for the GENERAL PUBLIC, replace the line “WB5RDD (star) RRVARC” with “Paris, Texas” or “Paris, Lamar County, Texas”. Because (1) the general public does not know what a call sign is, (2) RRVARC is redundant to the name above and many people are used to abbreviating group names in this manner and (3) WB5RDD is also redundant as it is in the group’s logo.
T3 (blue) is good, just replace the WB5RDD (star) RRVARC line as noted about and use the Eiffel tower. Oh, and the Texas shape is redundant.
I could say the large-lettered Red River Valley Amateur Radio Club is redundant (it, too is in the logo) but in this instance, it needs to be emphasized.
The Eiffel tower is better as it is a well-loved part of the community and known outside the community. The radiating tower is beloved and recognizable only by the amateur radio community.
The KISS method is very important here. Keep it as simple as possible to generate interest, without overwhelming them, including graphics use. That’s what flyers/brochures are for.
Whoever created these did a fine job. If these will be displayed in the sunlight, be aware almost all reds fade very quickly. You might ask the supplier about this.Connie,
Thank you very much for the thoughtful feedback. This is exactly why we wanted to put some concepts in front of everyone before making any decisions. We really do welcome comments, whether they are positive, negative or somewhere in between.
I think your point about making the banner immediately understandable to the general public is a good one. In particular, I agree that repeating WB5RDD and RRVARC on the lower line does not add much when both are already represented elsewhere in the design.
The only complication with using “Paris, Texas” there is that RRVARC is intentionally broader than Paris or Lamar County. We have members from Fannin, Hopkins, Delta and Red River counties in Texas as well as members from counties across the river in Oklahoma. I would not want a general-use club banner to unintentionally suggest that those members are somehow outside the area we represent.
So, taking your suggestion and trying to preserve that broader regional identity, we worked up another version using:
Serving Northeast Texas & Southeast Oklahoma
We also retained the Paris Eiffel Tower with the red cowboy hat because I agree that it gives the banner a strong local connection without making the wording itself Paris-specific.
We have labeled this one T4 so it can stand on its own as a new option rather than replacing one of the earlier concepts.
Again, thank you for taking the time to look closely at these and offer suggestions. This kind of feedback is genuinely helpful and is exactly what we were hoping for when we opened the discussion.

I completely agree on that vertical remark. The bottom left corner on the big mashup above has one vertical. My plan has been to figure out the styles people like and then see if we can get two horizontal and one vertical with a stand budgeted. As finances improve we could always add more, but I totally agree that at least one vertical should be in the initial mix. Thanks for confirming your thinking on that.
