It has come to our attention that hams in North Texas are being contacted by For Profit companies claiming to represent charities asking Hams and or Clubs to volunteer for events. Just a reminder that volunteering your services as ham for a for profit company is a violation of Part 97 and volunteering as ANY kind of volunteer for a for profit company violates US Labor laws and is not covered by personal insurance policies such as ARRL insurance, auto and health insurance. An easy way to tell who EXACTLY who you are working for is to look at who is giving you directions before and during the event. If you are still unsure contact the charity directly and ask for clarification, such as a MOA, in writing. For Profit businesses know hams have big volunteer hearts and we don’t want to see people get taken advantage of or in legal trouble.
