    All,

So, let me get this right, Durant with KXII already having a doppler radar in Madill (22.49 miles away) and with a population of 19,000 people is getting a doppler radar of their own? Paris with 24,000 people and depending on National Weather Service radar 116 miles away and Paris/Lamar County political leaders are not pulling out the stops to get their own radar? What the hell?…

The City of Durant installs new weather radar – After reading this article every person in Lamar County should be calling their county commissioner and the sheriff and every person in Paris should be calling their city council representative and the police chief and ask them this singular question “What are City of Paris and Lamar County elected leaders doing to secure a doppler radar in Paris?”

There should be a coordinated effort on this.  Local community leaders could make it happen pretty quickly if they applied themselves.  $1.6 million?  Is the Lamar County Emergency Coordinator working on this already?  Let’s find out.  I don’t live in Lamar County so they would tell me to take a long walk off of a short pier.  Does anyone want to make those calls and find out?

    All,

Here is another story on the topic – Weather radar installed in Durant to soon benefit surrounding communities during severe weather

There are a lot more details in that one.

After posting the first one, where I encouraged people to contact their local political leaders, I was told that one is going up in Reno very soon. If anyone has an official source for confirmation please let us know.

    Be safe,

    Phillip

I sure hope so, our local coverage is… lacking.
