KeymasterAll,
It isn’t directly related to ham radio, but you have to wonder if the technology used to create this – US used powerful mystery weapon that brought Venezuelan soldiers to their knees during Maduro raid: witness account – would cause amateur radio any issues. For reading that article I suggest disabling JavaScript.
Through the years I am aware of reports that people who worked at some of our foreign embassies, particularly in Cuba as I am recalling; some people complained of complex ailments that I would characterize as being possibly symptomatic of exposure to directed energy type weapons. The New York Post article above includes quotes from someone on the ground in Venezuela. That person claimed they were affected by something he called a “sonic” weapon. And from the article “The White House did not immediately respond to a question regarding whether Karoline Leavitt’s sharing of the post — captioned, “Stop what you are doing and read this…” — indicated the administration was verifying the veracity of the eyewitness account.”
A lot of hams are also preppers. At one end of that spectrum are the ones that are preparing against natural disasters and at the far opposite end of that spectrum are those that are concerned about Electromagnetic Pulse, manmade or natural, and perhaps government and/or foreign adversary action. If the latter tr is a concern for someone, they might want to keep their eyes open for future details on this device it appears that we used in Venezuela. It seems it would have to be directed so as to not negatively affect our personnel, and maybe it has so little range there is no concern beyond a few hundred feet, so maybe it wouldn’t cause radio issues. But not enough detail is known for me to be able to even guess at the implications.
